My Health Record FAQ

The My Health Record system is the Australian Government’s digital health record system that holds My Health Records. This system will soon include radiology reports. Below, we have listed some common questions that patients often ask.

My Health Record is an Australian Government initiative. It is a digital record of your key health information, such as immunisations, pathology and diagnostic imaging reports, prescription and dispensing information, hospital discharge summaries and more.

Unless you have opted out, My Health Record makes your key health information easily available to both you and your healthcare providers involved in your care.

This helps continuity of care and supports better informed clinical decisions and positive health outcomes.

But it also helps you manage your own healthcare in a single, convenient and accessible record that you can control.

If you haven’t opted out, you will have a My Health Record. You can cancel your My Health Record at any time by logging into myhealthrecord.gov.au.

Radiology reports will automatically be sent to My Health Record unless you have opted out.

My Health Record can store your diagnostic imaging report. Please note that images are NOT stored in your Record.

Having a My Health Record does not change the normal distribution of your diagnostic imaging results.

Your report and imaging will still be sent as usual to the clinician that requested your examination with us.

Even though your My Health Record may provide greater access you your health information, it’s important to speak with your clinician about your results.

Occasionally the radiologist can add further or clarifying information about your report after it has been released to your referring clinician or to My Health Record.

If this is the case then the addended report will be uploaded to My Health Record as an additional report.

The original report and addended report will have their own distinct date in My Health Record.

Yes. If you prefer a particular examination not be sent to your Record, then you can notify our staff at the time of your appointment.

Furthermore – My Health Record is consumer controlled. You can manage the settings and preferences to control what information is contributed to your Record.

If you notify us at time of registration, we only have control to help you opt out of that particular examination with Benson Radiology.

Unfortunately we cannot provide any other support or help you manage your personal preferences of your Record. You can easily manage your preferences at myhealthrecord.gov.au, linked to your myGov account.
