Australia-first CT scanner for Mount Gambier

Regional health services have received a boost with the installation of Benson Radiology’s new CT scanner at its Mount Gambier Hospital branch.

The new Siemens Somatom X.cite is the first of its kind in Australia and will now allow for a comprehensive range of cardiac imaging, previously not available in the state’s South East.

The scanner delivers extremely low radiation dose, allowing for extremities to be performed under CT at the same dose as an x‑ray. The large 82cm bore size provides more comfort to our potentially claustrophobic patients while providing greater flexibility with interventional procedures. Dual energy imaging also allows for better substance characterisation, oncology imaging, renal stone analysis and assessment of bone bruising trauma.
