PET for rare and uncommon cancer
14 October 2022
Medicare-funded PET imaging is available (from November 1st, 2022) for the initial staging and management in patients diagnosed with rare and uncommon cancers.
In Australia, a rare or uncommon cancer is defined as occurring in, “less than 12 cases per 100,000 persons per year”.
A rebate is now available for the use of PET in investigating initial staging and management of patients diagnosed with these cancers.
With our superior sensitivity, we can reduce injected dose by at least half compared to conventional PET/CT and our wide axial view (26cm) means faster acquisition times.
Lower dose and better patient comfort is particularly significant for oncology patients receiving multiple studies.
