Southern Hemisphere’s latest MRI technology for Modbury Hospital
13 August 2018
Modbury Hospital patients can now benefit from Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) due to Benson Radiology’s installation of a scanner that represents the very latest in MRI technology.
The installation of the 1.5 Tesla Siemens Sola scanner, which featured on Channel Nine News is a first for Modbury Hospital, it is also the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere and one of only a handful globally.
Benson Radiology radiologist and managing partner, Dr Dale Allison said one of the scanner’s unique features was in the way it uses biometric technology.
“The new MRI scanner automatically adjusts to a patient’s weight, height, heart rate and respiration, to overcome variations in examinations,” Dr Allison said.
“This means our scanning protocols can be tailored to create an optimised scan for each and every individual.”
“This state of the art machine will provide more accurate examinations for a range of clinical presentations and is particularly useful in the assessment of conditions such as soft tissue, ligaments and complex joints.”
“Higher quality images will lead to improved diagnoses and better health outcomes.”
Benson Radiology has worked closely in partnership with both the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network and Modbury Hospital to deliver this outcome.
“Benson Radiology is excited to offer this service for residents living in the north and north eastern communities,” Dr Allison said.
“This is a boost to local health services and is certainly terrific news for clinicians and patients alike.”
