Mammography / tomosynthesis
A mammogram is an x-ray examination of the breast. It is particularly useful in the early detection of breast cancer and for monitoring any changes within the breasts. Regular mammograms are recommended for patients over the age of 45.
In addition to traditional mammography, Benson Radiology also provides the latest in tomosynthesis (or 3D mammography), which acquires images of the breast from different angles to allow for 3D digital reconstruction of the breast.
To obtain a clear image of the breast tissue, the breast needs to be compressed for a few seconds. In some cases this may cause some minor discomfort, but is necessary for an accurate diagnosis. You will be asked to hold your breath for a few seconds during the examination.
